Team History
The original Johnny Bravo was born Joao Bravolho, a lowly Portuguese sailor looking for adventure on the Pinta, sailing for India in 1492. Shorty after arriving on the island of Hispaniola, however, Joao grew disgusted with the Spanish's treatment of the Arawak and Taino, and resolved to escape with as many of them as possible. Carving three canoes out of Matapalo trunks with his bare hands, he led a daring midnight escape with twenty natives and braved the gulf waters until arriving just north of present-day Galveston, Texas.
Having imposed death on any deserters, several prominent families pledged unending pursuit until Bravolho and his band were found and executed. Jorge el Furioso, Carlos Salmon, Juan de Perro, Vicente Mermelada, and Martin Condor, among others, hounded them into the mainland until the tiny band found refuge near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. There, Joao changed his name to Johnny Bravo and resolved that his life's work would be to bring justice to the oppressors and protect the oppressed.
Many believe the Johnny Bravo name dead. No known direct descendants exist, they say. He's been written as myth, fiction. Perhaps. But they say in Colorado a strange people live, with Taino features, with an Arawak heart. And with a determination unrivaled, and a steady eye toward injustice, with steely resolve. |
