Mars 2008 Tournament Announcement I'm very excited to announce Mars 2008. Please read this entire message regarding the tournament details and information on submitting a bid. First, we are making some slight changes from last year. As you might have noticed, we are holding the tournament on July 4-6 this year. The Fourth is back to a Friday, so that makes this year an easy choice, with the tournament spanning Friday through Sunday. This should hopefully make it easier for those of you who work full time! We're also happy to have Mike Yanchak's award winning Acapella group, DoubleShot!, back for a performance on Saturday night, and the traditional Karaoke on Friday. In addition, we will be revamping our tournament food/water operation. Water will be accessible at the fields, instead of only in the pavilion. Also, FREE Gatorade will be available to players in the pavilion, and we're bringing back Red, White, and Blue Rita's Italian Ice on the Fourth. Everything else will remain pretty much the same - same format, same fields, same camping, same great party (hoping to increase from the whopping 40 kegs consumed last year....sponsor a keg, help us get there!). FYI - We are filling up faster than ever, so get your checks in ASAP to guarantee your spot. While increasing the bids more would be an obvious solution, we feel that it would punish the teams who do not take full advantage of the hospitality that MARS has to offer -- and rationing the beer supply during the first night's party takes away from the fun of a really great time. So we're offering each team -- and we especially recommend this for the hearty partiers (you know who you are) -- the opportunity to 'sponsor' a keg for an additional $50 per keg. When the tournament supply is dry, we will begin using the 'sponsor' kegs by announcing, 'well, we SHOULD have been out of beer by now... but thanks to [YOUR TEAM NAME], we are able to keep the party going just a little bit longer.' When your team's keg is announced, your team gets to come up and get first crack at your sponsored keg as everyone around you cheers for being the saviors of the party. Two of the sponsor teams will win the tournament banners and there will be other perks along the way for the 'sponsoring' teams TBA. (IMPORTANT NOTE: As always, the Mars Tournament reserves the right to require proof of age from any player at any time as it applies to the consumption of alcohol, and the right to refuse alcohol to any player at any time for any reason, period.)
