Strategy: Encourage and Expand Participation of Women in Ultimate at All Levels of Play
There are many large obstacles facing women in sports, some are generic to all sports and are a product of our society and culture, and others are unique to Ultimate, as we provide one of the few opportunities among field team sports for men and women to compete together. Increased capacity for women to lead, learn and play the sport is essential.
Tactic: Increase the number and quality of female leaders in Ultimate. Number and skills of female leaders will be increased through development and implementation of an onsite, hands-on leadership workshop designed to equip women with the practical skills to teach and lead Ultimate in their communities. Rebate and incentive programs will be implemented to increase the number of female coaches and Observers.
Tactic: Increase opportunities for women to learn the sport. A best practices manual for recruiting girls and women in leagues and on teams will be developed. Women’s/girls’ team starter kit will be developed; funding and marketing of Women’s Skills clinic kits will increase.
Tactic: Market Ultimate through external sources geared toward girls/women. Press/promotional package on girls/women in Ultimate will be developed and made available to organizations, publications, athletic and community service organizations.
Tactic: Enhance Women's coverage in UPA media. Efforts will be made to increase the quality of coverage of women’s Ultimate in all UPA media outlets. Outreach to local women’s leaders will be made in order to ascertain what type of coverage is important, and obtain assistance in achieving it.
Tactic: UPA Board of Directors will draft and adopt a gender equity policy. Communities are strongest when all members of the community feel supported, respected and represented. The UPA Board will adopt a policy to ensure equal representation of both genders in UPA produced, sponsored, and endorsed promotional and marketing materials.
